Chives are a dark green cylindrical leaf and make a good culinary herb. The smallest species of edible onions.
Chives can be sprinkled onto soft cheeses, dips, sour cream,fish, potatoes, soups and grilled meats.

Facts
One of the most ancient of all herbs. It resembles hollow blades of grass. The distinctive smell and taste is derived from a volatile oil, rich in sulphur and common in onions. Referred to only in plural, because they grow in clumps and not individually.
Nutrition and health benefits
The health benefits of Chives are similar to those of garlic; the faint effects in comparison with garlic are probably the main reason for their limited use as a medicinal herb. Chives are reported to have a beneficial effect on the circulatory system, is a mild stimulant, diuretic, and has some antiseptic properties.
Chives are also rich in vitamins A and C, and are rich in calcium and iron.
How to use Chives
Often snipped and sprinkled on food just before serving otherwise their flavour disappears. They can be sprinkled onto soft cheeses or sprinkled onto grilled meats, or added liberally to sour cream as a filling for jacket potatoes.

Please keep refrigerated. Keep in the fridge for up to 1 week. Rinse before use.
